Tested Adware & Spyware Free
What are Drivers?
Drivers are files on your computer that allows the Windows Operating System and installed applications to interact and communicate with connected hardware. They can be regarded as instruction manuals the software parts of a computer uses to understand how to operate hardware devices.
If you experience a problem with a driver, the hardware it is designed to operate will not function properly or at all.
Troubleshooting and Solutions
Your computer will have many drivers installed on the system, and all of them could cause an error at any time, so here are some of the common problems and how to resolve them:
- The hardware device is not properly connected
This is surprisingly common, so it should be the first thing you check, see to that the device is properly connected and turned on.
- The driver is incompatible with other applications on your computer
Sometimes when you install a device or a program, they are not compatible with each other and cause system errors; you can try to remove the device or program from your computer.
An example could be if your CD-ROM driver is not compatible with your CD-Burning software, you will either need to get a different CD-Burning program or look for a compatible driver.
- The driver has become damaged, corrupted or outdated
This can occur if you have installed an incompatible update or the driver has become damaged due to other internal errors.
To deal with this problem, you can enter the Device Manager by typing “devmgmt.msc” into run…, and press enter. Once inside, you will see a list of installed hardware devices, when you expand the categories (click the + signs) to see the drivers, you can right click them and get three choices:
- Update Driver: This option will launch an update wizard that will attempt to locate and install the appropriate driver updates.
- Rollback Driver: If you experienced and error shortly after updating a driver, the updated version is probably not compatible, you can use this option to return to the previous version.
- Uninstall Driver: This option uninstalls the driver entirely, sometimes removing the driver and reinstalling it can fix errors.
Other Solutions
To save time, you could go for a third party driver update tool, Driver Checker is an excellent choice and will scan your computer for any driver related issues, such as corrupted or outdated drivers and automatically install the updates for these drivers.
Keeping you drivers updated is a very important step to having an optimized computer, and you should check for driver updates regularly, but going through the device manager and manually looking for updates can be time consuming so getting an automatic driver update tool is great way to save time and ensure you always have the latest drivers for you hardware devices.
